This simple concept is crucial to playing great lines and landing them strongly. At the basic level, jazz improvisation, or soloing, can be boiled down to the concept of using the notes from the scales that correspond to the chords in a progression to create melodies on the spot. However, simply using any note from a scale isn't enough- we need to land chord tones on strong beats.
